Bowling Bombers Move to 2-0 in GCL Play

Thursday nights are GCL Nights in Cincinnati, as the St. Xavier Bowling Bombers traveled to Crossgate Lanes to take on the Moeller Crusaders. 

In game one, the Bombers put up an 84 pin lead as Andrew Berkemeier, Aaron Bickford, and Keegan Barbee rolled games of 224, 210, and 202.  Tyler Brown returned to the lineup to shoot a 175 game as the Bombers shot a 965.  The Crusaders' Dalton Schottmiller cracked 218 as Moeller rolled an 881.

In game two, St. X struggled with a transitioning pair as Aaron Bickford was the only Bomber to cross the 200 threshold with a 208 for a 418 series.  Andrew Berkemeier shot a 190 for a 414 and Keegan Barbee finished his 370 series with a 168 game.  Moeller's Kelton Quick shot a 201 and was the only Crusader to cross that 200 line.  The Bombers took a slim lead into bakers, 1874 to 1787.  


During bakers the Crusdaers kept it tight as the Bombers put up games of 206 and 204 while Moeller rolled 199 and 177.  In game three, the Bombers rolled 5 splits for a game of 130 but Moeller could only answer with a 138 of their own.  In game four, the Bombers did what they do best, which is close frames with a game of 193.  Moeller rolled the highest baker game of the day with a 229.  The Bombers lost 10 pins in baker shooting a 733 to Moeller's 743. 

The Bombers hold onto a 77 pin victory with a final of 2607 to 2530.  The Bombers move to 3-2 on the season and remain undefeated at 2-0 in the GCL.  The Crusaders fall to 1 and 3 on the season and 0-2 in the GCL.  

Record Performances
The Bombers' win against the Crusaders was the 64th victory since their first match up in 2001/2002 season.  The Crusaders have 12 total wins against the Bombers.  The win is the 90th win at St. X for Coach Hott who is in his 8th season as the Bombers Head Coach.  Coach Runkel is the winningest coach in school history with a 134 victories in 11 seasons.         

Upcoming Schedule:
The Bombers continue to travel in December with an "away" tournament at Western Bowl on December 11th.  The Bombers then have their first GCL quad of the year at Northwest Lanes on the 13th and finish December off with an away match against Lakota West at Gilmore Lanes.  

Around the GCL:
The Elder Panthers and La Salle Lancers remained idle on Thursday.  The Bombers sit atop the GCL at 2-0 and in a virtual tie with Elder at 1-0.  La Salle sits in third at 0-1 and Moeller in 4th at 0-2.
