Bowling Bombers Open GCL with a Win

The Bowling Bombers opened GCL play with a home match against the La Salle Lancers.  The Lancers have finished tied with the Bombers the last 2 seasons for second place in the GCL.  The Bombers enter the day 1-1 on the season and the Lancers only lane time was a 10th place finish in the Kick-Off Invitational.  

 

In game one, both teams struggled early to find the line on the lanes.  The Lancers' Jonathan Schneider rolled a 212 and Tyler Flannery shot a 204 (354 series).  Junior Brady Johnson led the Bombers in game one streaking 5 strikes together to shoot a 223.  Seniors Andrew Berkemeier and Keegan Barbee shot 207 and 203.  Dimitri Panagis put up a 180 while Aaron Bickford and Nick Stautberg combined for a 129.  After 1, the Bombers held a 939 to 935 lead.  

 

The Bombers came into game two ready to put distance between them and the Lancers.  Aaron Bickford put up a game high 256 while Brady Johnson (449 series) and Keegan Barbee (429 series) threw dueling 226s.  Andrew Berkemeier completed his 413 series with a 206 and Dimitri Panagis rolled a 192 for a 372.  The Lancers looked to Schneider for a 233 and a 445 series.  Jace Amann threw a 201 for a 368 series.  In game two, the Bombers finished with a 1106 to the Lancers' 954.  Going to bakers the Bombers led 2045 to 1889.

 

In baker game one, the Lancers clipped the lead by 14 with a 184-170 game.  In game two, the Bombers lead fell by 1 more as the Lancers shot a 204 to St. X's 203.  In game three, the Bombers pushed pass the lancers with a 189 to 179.  Heading into game 4 with a 151 pin lead, the Bombers shot a 180 (742) to the Lancers' 201 (768). 

The Bombers hold on to win 2787 to 2657.  St. X moves to 2 and 1 on the season and 1 and 0 in the GCL while La Salle falls to 0-1 on the season and in the GCL.  

 

Bomber Strength:

This is only the 22nd win over the Lancers in school history.  La Salle holds a 58 and 22 advantage dating back to the 2001-2002 season.  The Bomber's last win over the Lancers was in December of last year.  

 

Record Performances:

Aaron Bickfords 256 sits 109th on the list of best individual games in school history.  Game two's total of 1106 is the 18th best team score in school history.  

 

Upcoming Schedule:

The Bombers have a busy early December with a Saturday game at Bethel-Tate on the 2nd, the Elks Invitational on the 3rd, Mason on the 6th, and a GCL Match-Up with Moeller on the 7th.

 

Around the GCL:

The Moeller Crusaders knocked off Kings 2357 to 2129.  Elder and Moeller are set to match up on Thursday, November 30th.  The Bombers sit attop the GCL at 1-0, Elder and Moeller tied at 0-0, and La Salle in 4th at 0-1.
